Sunset World Energy Efficiency Program

Since August 2014 Sunset World has been working an Energy Efficiency Program in order to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy. This program includes optimizing air conditioning systems, and updating our water, heat and LED lighting technology at all six hotels.

Such actions have consisted of 3 stages:

Step 1

1) Identification. First we identified operational points and technology that were not energy efficient.

Step 1

2) Next we replaced equipment and processes that caused unnecessary energy consumption.

Step 1

3) Finally we got to enjoy the results.

SUSTAINABLE TOURISM TIPS

  1. Conventional sunscreens may damage animals and plants instead look for biodegradable sunscreen.
  2. Plastic pollution is exceptionally damaging to marine animals and their habitats. Endangered sea turtles often mistake plastic shopping bags for their favorite food – jellyfish. Where possible, avoid buying products that come in disposable packages and use reusable shopping bags.
  3. Animals are not toys. They are living, intelligent beings that suffer in captivity. Don’t pay to have photos taken with them or to swim with them and you can avoid keeping them away from their natural home.
  4. Turtles are very sensitive. If you see one laying eggs, don´t take photos or try to touch it or hop on it. Respect them and do not step over the fenced off nests in the beach.
  5. Do not buy plants or products of animal origin from endangered species such as turtle eggs.
  6. Practice water sports responsibly. Treat reefs as works of art. Do not touch them while snorkeling. If you are sailing, always look for a safe sand-bottom location to anchor away from the reef.
  7. Walk, use a bicycle or public transportation. Fossil fuel pollution contributes to climate warming, which is the main cause of coral reef destruction.
